Annually, The American Express Championship Experience is the largest recreational tent at the US Open, where guests can take part in specialized fan-centric activations while cooling off between golf matches.
For the 2014 US Open, Momentum engineered an integrated user experience focusing on a personalized, fun, and shareable journey. With this mission in mind, we created a custom RFID activity tracking system that integrated with each activation, and multiple virtual photobooths that delivered sharable animated GIFs to each participant.
Each guest was issued an RFID wristband upon registration and invited to “check-in” to begin their personalized sessions across four Golf themed activities:
Trackman experience
A comprehensive swing analysis, visualized through our design, delivered to player’s experience profiles.
Golf Fitness Studio and Play 9 Concierge
In tandem, these experiences provided custom videos and information to player’s profiles, based on player’s health and location, respectively.
Photo Ops
Since photography at the US Open is strictly forbidden, to provide a fun alternative for attendees, we created three customized Photo Op experiences. Guests were able to choose from a variety of custom panoramic backgrounds we created from US Open venues for a personalized photo shoot in front of green screens. Our custom camera system delivered a series of 10 animated images to guest’s profiles for viewing and sharing.
About the technology we used
RFID bands linked to each user profile, with help from HelloWorld.
ID’s were tracked at scan stations and saved custom info to user profiles with help from Trackman and HelloWorld.
Custom API’s were created for linking and pushing info from our system to Trackman and HelloWorld to profiles.
Visitor information helped customize the experience for each guest.
Combined, our activity tracking system and photo booths provided guests with fun opportunities to track and share their Championship Experiences at the US Open.
